53 gmc cowl vent leaks need help!

Is there anyone who has had this problem and knows how to adjust to stop it...have a new gasket and everything looks fine...but water just pours in around the vent at the back portion...any help would be appreciated...about to the point to seal it completely.

Is the drain tube clean and working? a lot of guys who "clean up the firewall" eliminate the drain tube from the vent that goes through the firewall and the water ends up dumping on the floor. I haven't played with one in years to try and adjust it so I'm not much help there at the moment.

Thanks for answering...yes vent tube is clear...it just seems that when lowering the vent it contacts the front before the rear..and I can find no adjustment to correct it?

Easy. Just don't drive in the rain! Seriously, though sorry I can't help.

How about building up the gasket in the rear - maybe put some kind of shim or spacer under it?

Mmm...tried that and no help...its almost like the bottom gasket is too short..I looked in classic and it shows a foam gasket that was supposed to be original and then aftermarket....I think mine is aftermarket rubber...so thinking of trying the orignal type one next...Tim

I tried a few of them and ended up using the one from Steele Rubber and it seems to seal the best.
I am sure you had all of the bolts out and adjusted it to fit and make sure the lever was over center. I ended up putting a electric motor on mine to open and close the vent and it seemed to help with the pressure to hold the vent down.

Yes..tried all adjustments...afraid to go tighter or bend hinges etc...I found the steele rubber site...got another brand on the way...if it does not work..will try your suggestion...thanks...Tim
