What e-fan relay did you use????

I was working in the garage yesterday and decided to mess around with an electric fan I got from a 2005 Mustang. I took the positve and negative leads and connected them to my battery posts to see how much air it wld pull. Worked awsome. I remeber seeing a thread about an e-fan install and was wondering what relay and tempsensor set up was used and if it worked well?

I used a Derale adjustable control unit with the screw in type temp sensor, instead of a push in, probe type.

Re: What e-fan relay did you use????

I got the cheapest relay/temp controller that Jegs had. I think it is "Perma-Cool" brand. It features a temp probe that slides into the radiator fins. It can control/power two fans up to 20amps. I use it for two 12"ers and wired the AC turn on to a switch with ignition hot so I can manually turn on the fans when I want.

Pros:
Complete kit.
Can power two fans.
Has an AC turn on wire

Cons:
All the wires, including the temp probe, are hard wired to the controller. This makes installation way more of a pain and the temp probe wire is pretty short, limiting how far from the rad you can mount the relay.

No variable speed/soft start. (Some $200 controllers feature this)

I don't like the external temp probe. Next summer I want to run an actual rad coolant temp sensor but since the probe is hard wired I think I need a whole new unit.

Do you have a PN for the sending unit?
