@ 2" of drop for each coil cut off and it depends on how many leafs the rear pack has to begin with.

Re: Cheap lowering idea's??

i picked up 3 inch lowering springs shackles, hangers and all 4 lowering shocks for 400 bucks of ebay. which will allow a 3/4 drop.

I had one cut coil removed a few leafs and drop shackles. It was only $50 bucks for drop shackles and a new center bolt to hold the leafs together

Re: Cheap lowering idea's??

Looks like I only have 3 leaves and an add a leaf looking thing on the back right now, what can I remove? Or should I? I don't want to do anything dangerous. Thanks

Up front, cut one coil. In the rear, remove the rivits from your spring hanger and move it up. All it costs is the labor and a few grade 5 bolts.

now i've never done it and i'm unsure of any asscociated safety risks, but isn't it possible to heat your coils with a torch and let the weight of the vehicle compress them?

If I remember right, heating the coil is not controlled enough and you end up with different spring rates on all four corners.

If you can do all the work yourself......Flip kit in the rear end, practically free. cut a coil on the front springs, and drop spindles. You can buy used spindles. mine were $400 new( bell tech). 4/6 drop.

Re: Cheap lowering idea's??

cheap sounds good to me.
but then again, i have decided to wait till i have 400 extra bucks laying around to buy a kit that has everything needed to lower truck 4/6.
im sure cutting a coil and blocks for rear are a cheap way that will show a little lower truck. but the reality is the truck will prob ride like crap and not be low enuff for my liking. so as opposed to going quick and cheap, im gonna wait it out and get a kit when the extra cash is available.
i think i read your gonna sell truck soon anyway, so i guess it dont matter.
good luck either way.

Re: Cheap lowering idea's??

blocks will raise the truck, you need to do a flip kit before blocks will work.

You can buy the flip kit brackets on ebay for less then $50 and that'd get you 5-6 inches of drop. You could add blocks, hangers or shackles to that to make it lower.

Summit has 1,2, and 3 inch drop springs, the 3 inch are like $75. if that aint low enough not sure if you can cut them off or not, maybe get the 1 or 2 inch drop springs and cut some of them? Cutting them usually makes it stiff and I think taking leaves out makes it bouncy or spongy?

Buy the drop spindles, or a arms, then cut the stock coils to what you want.

Re: Cheap lowering idea's??

For me I knew that a 4/6 or 5/7 drop was never going to be enough, I was planning right from the start to bag my truck, years before I even bought it. I wasn't wasting money on lowering springs, but I knew that I would need drop spindles later on, so I bought them first. I did the flip in the rear without a kit, and raised the spring hangers up by myself, 0$. Eventually the back end will be 4 linked and bagged, the front is already. For the little extra money it costs you can bag the front right from the start! you don't even need the spindles yet. I have mine run off a schrader valve for now till I get tanks and a compressor. but it is completely adjustable, with a low static drop it's a ***** trying to jack it up to work on and there's some places where you just can't go...

Re: Cheap lowering idea's??

For the rear, you can use the 81-91 suburban hangers. 1 out of the 4 holes bolt up lol, and the other 3 ... well just make new holes... its the equivelant to the $$ aftermarket lowering hanger.
