Fuel Gauge is pegged past full

I bought and installed a new 0-90ohm autometer fuel gauge. Its all hooked up with a full tank of gas. As soon as I turned the key for the first time it pegged itself pass full. I went through an entire tank without it moving a cm. The original fuel gauge worked. I'm at a lost and tried everything. Any and all help is appreciated.

Re: Fuel Gauge is pegged past full

First, make sure the gauge body or shell is grounded. If that doesn't do it. you probably have an open connection on the sender side of the gauge, that is, between the gauge terminal and the tank unit. As a test, ground the terminal (on the gauge) and see if the gauge goes to empty. If it does, work your way back along the wire until you get to the tank unit.
