Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
1 Attachment(s)
My '64 Fenderside has two punched holes in the upper portion of the transmission hump similar to the holes depicted in the attached photo. It seems like i have seen these holes punched in other trucks on this forum. Why would these holes be there? Will I regret patching them?

Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
A guess , but they might be to geat at those 2 upper bolts easier bellhousing/motor.
those 2 are the hardest to get a good bite on. |
Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
theoretically one doesn't need to undo those bolts on a std trans in the truck as everything in the flywheel clutch area is accessible through the bottom of the b/housing and if it is an a/t a 24" ext and a 9/16 impact flex socket will get up in there nicely

Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
If you have a stock bellhousing (cast iron and open on the bottom) there is no real need for those holes. If you have an aluminum full-circle bellhousing, you might want to leave them there.

Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
Im thinking it looks like a car 4 speed setup. Maybe it had 2 different car 4 speed setups over time.

Bullet holes?

Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
My 64 gmc has the same holes, they are drane holes for aftermarket ac underdash unit. There are 2 drane tubes one on each side of unit. MIKE

Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
I would plug them with rubber grommets. Then you can keep the cold air out and be able to access the bolts if needed.

Re: Punched Holes in Tranny Hump
I still have the ac unit in storeage. I could get the make and model # if you want to check it further.
