Re: 230 inline 6 to a 400 sbc...give it to me straight
I'm currently in the process of doing the same on my 69SWB but with a 350. engine mounts and their location can remain the same. The wiring will need to be modified if you were not running and HEI on the 250. Also, on my 250, the alternator was on the drivers side and for the 350, it was on the pass. side. Radiator Hoses will need to be changed along with the radiator and fan shroud. I'm not sure on your T400 as I kept the 3speed so I didn't have to modify from the tranny back.

My son is running a 3 speed muncie behind a slightly modified 454 with a posi without a problem. He is not real easy on it either.

If you're trading out the tranny too you might as well move the engine to the forward holes and use the small block towers. Like stated above you will need to get rid of the crossmember your bell housing is mounted to now and get a auto tranny crossmember. You will have to run the auto linkage and shifter and you can just seal up the hole where your shifter is now or you could even change to a low hump floor. Exhaust will have to be addressed, when I changed mine I just scrapped the stock pipes and had a shop run all new dual exhaust. also you will need to find a different driveshaft or get yours modified. Hope this helps you out.

Here is what the small block v8 stand looks like, it's the one on the right with the small hole in it (if you are wondering the other one with big hole is for v6).
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/h...n/SSPX0090.jpg These are the mounts that you need for the small block. Here is a link for them, they cost $7 per side, http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...3627_195313_0_ http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znet.../2282/image/4/ Hope this helps you out. |
