Why doesn't my hood close right?
On my 67, the hood does not go down all the way in the back. I can push it down with my hand after it's closed. Is this normal or is something worn out?

It needs some adjusting or also, that is one of the main signs that the hinges are worn out.

Re: Why doesn't my hood close right?
worn springs will cause this, as will worn rivit holes.
If you have nice paint, take steps to prevent paint damage. Open hood. Loosen the bolts that hold the hinge to the fenders. have an assistant push the hood open a little further. Tighten the bolts as the helper keeps it a tic further. SLOWLY lower the hood. Keep an eye on the rear of the hood, it may rub on the cowl. If that happens, loosen the 4 bolts that hold the hood to the hinge and slide the hood forward a bit. rinse and repeat some cars not for use with some sets actual results may vary side effects may include diarrhea or constipation ;) |

Re: Why doesn't my hood close right?
I had several of these trucks with the same problem. Someone on this site finally helped me fix it. Open the hood, loosen the hood hinge bolts on the fender and have someone push up on the hood from the front until you see the hinges lower in the back. tighten and check it. It worked for me!

Re: Why doesn't my hood close right?
Open the hood. Now move the front of the hood from left to right while watching the hinges. If the hinges move around on the rivetts, the hinges are warn out and the hinges need replacing. Tipping the back of the hinge back with warn out hinges is a temporary fix at best. The hinge will eventualy bend or come apart, and always at the most innopertune time, doing dammage to your new paint. The springs have nothing to do with pulling the rear of the hood down, they pop the hood open, assist in the lifting of the hood and hold the hood open. New GM hinges are still availible, so I would buy a new set now while you can. (If yours are warn out) The will be discontinued soon. WES

Re: Why doesn't my hood close right?
Why are the left side hinges $36 more than the right side? Just asking.

Re: Why doesn't my hood close right?
GM bases their prices on the sales of a part. If a left side sells more than the right, then the left sells for less. They are that way on virtualy all of their parts. WES

Re: Why doesn't my hood close right?
Mine was the same way. All I had to do was loosen the hinge mounting bolts (to the fender) and push up on the front of the hood while it's open. Then, tighten the bolts while someone holds it up. This will push down on the the back of the hinge and make the hood sit lower.
