Re: door locks inop
the doors only lock with the key. You can lock it from inside however if you push the knob down and then close the door they will pop up. A don't lock yourself out feature....
That may not be your issue, but knowing that little tidbit might help to isolate the issue. On my driver side, I have to turn the key to lock and while holding it in the lock position push the button. Then it goes down all the way and locks. Goofy, but these things have lots of quirks and I swear 90% have to do with the doors. |
Re: door locks inop
I can see that think my 67 camaro is similar but if door is shut cant lock anything at all door has to be open then locks work just fine makes no sense.

Re: door locks inop
Try pushing in on the door while locking. That relieves the pressure on worn parts and allows the lock to latch.

Re: door locks inop
If that works then it would be a latch then right?

Re: door locks inop
sounds like your latches need to be adj. outward just a little.

Re: door locks inop
I had the same problem with my '71 truck. A lot of lubricant and working the lock mechanism helped. I also had to take the door latch out and straighten it up a little. Seems to work now.

Re: door locks inop
How do you adjust the latch?

Re: door locks inop
Just loosen the 4 bolts on the latch, If I remember it's a 9/16 wrench. I usually take a felt tip pen and mark where they were just to get a reference point of how much I move them.

Re: door locks inop
I have found if the door latch is worn badly the rotating wheel gets in the way with the lock arm. The easiest way is to check it out and look for wear and lube it . if it shows wear replace it or if you are handy with a mig welder I have welded and refaced the locking arm to repair this problem. Usually you can tell if you have this wear by pushing in on the door as you try to locl it. This aligns the locking mech. with the lock arm.

Re: door locks inop
Does anyone have any diagrams/repair instructions for the door locks?
The locks on my 71 blazer 4x4 4spd-- are inoperable on both sides. Door open-- It locks unlocks with the button--but not the key (i think the PO gave me the wrong door key) Door closed-- does not lock with the button or the key. One last thing-- Anybody know the key codes/types for the stock hardtops? I do not have a key and would like to get one..... Does this mean i have to take the door panel off and do some adjustment......? I am sure I can figure it out, but this msg board is an amazing wealth of knowledge and resources-- And I do not want to re-invent the wheel lol! Thanks Jon |
Re: door locks inop
They came, one key fits all. Meaning same key for ign. doors, and hatch.
