Lowered Blazers? Gas tank skid plate?
 

Now that I've baged the rear of my blazer I've noticed that the Gas tank is the lowest part of the chassis when aired out. I'd like to protect the gas tank some how. Allthough when I get my hidden hitch a easy mounting method may prosent itself for a skid plate.

I have the original Blazer skid plate on my Blazer tank. Actually helps support the tank and I have a reciever hitch. I can't get to my reciever hitch bolts without taking the tank off.

I also have a blazer tank in my 1971 4x4 and am using the blazer metal skid plate.

Do you have the bolt on hidden hitch?

Do any of you guys have a picture of your hitch (the part that attaches to the frame)? I have a blazer with the skid plate and want to put a receiver hitch. Any sugestions on where/how to buy one. How does it attach??? on the frame or is the skid plate between the frame and the hitch?

The skid plate attaches to the cross members, like the straps. the hitch bolts to the bottom of the frame. Thats how mine is.

On my truck. you have to remove the tank to bolt on the hidden hitch. I have one from ECP and a poly tank from WES. I would like some pic of this skid plate. Any repo's out there?

I bought my hidden hitch from Dave at Early Classic. I haven't installed it yet, and fear I'll have to get my X-haust rerouted to work. Oh well it need to go threw my crossmember anyway.

Seeing this post on skid plates reminded me about a 72' Jimmy I used to own.I noticed the gas tank was leaking on it so I had to remove a section of the trailer hitch that ran down below the center of the skid plate (hacksaw job, brutal!) so I could get the skid plate off. When I took the skiplate off, it was obvious why the tank was leaking... the previous owner (my dad) had never cleaned out all the sand and dirt that had accumulated between the tank and skid plate, so the bottom of the tank was always wet, and proceeded to start rusting out. (pinholes) I managed to fix the tank with epoxy (love that stuff) and put it all back together. Moral of story; if you use your truck with skid plate on a lot of gravel roads like my dad did, you want to keep the dirt out between the skid plate and tank, and if you put a trailer hitch on with anything under the skid plate, just remember, you may have to drop the tank one day:eek:

Not a very good picture, but this is my blazer skid plate over the tank. It has a cheesey hitch (not receiver) thats what the other bolts are. Does the receiver bolt behind the leaf spring shackles?

LOW TANKS ARE A DRAG!
 

We don't use those Blazer/Sub tanks on anything lowered over 4" in the rear. Use a lower profile, tapered bottom tank.

Nice tank, where can I get one? What are its dimensions and capacity? and most importantly how much?:D:D:D
