Anchor point for shoulder harness?
 

what has everyone done to create an anchor point when adding a shoulder harness seat belt? Reinforce it with a plate?? I was going to hammer small piece of plate to match the contour, slide it up behind the cab wall, weld it through spot weld holes.

One of the guys did it when he made his a big window. I am going to make mine a big window and put it behind the panel when I take it off.

Yep, That's what I would do. You should be able to reach up there from the opening below with maybe a piece of steel temporarily tacked to the plate. Then break it off after it is welded to the sheetmetal.

SO-CAL sells plates with nuts welded, They are cheap and worked perfect I used them on my 66. Drill hole from inside cab through superficial panel and slide plate up behind panel just drilled with hand and thread bolt. Driverside had to remove fillerneck so my arm would fit.

Hardwaa, Do you have any part number for the So-Cal anchor plates, I looked on a couple of So-Cal site and have not found them. They look like something I would like to buy.

I bought my seat belts from Juliano's and the anchor plates for the shoulder belts came as part of the mounting package. I'm sure you could get them there also.

I did mine exactly the same way as Hardwaa did. There's no need to weld the plate in place. Just slide it up behind the hole you drilled, and thread the bolt on. Skinny arms help, or a tacked on "reach extender". The inner sheetmetal panelis pretty strong. It might deform a bit in a serious crash, but by that point you'd have bigger problems anyway.............

Great info guys. I'm planning to install new seat belts in my 66 and this is how I will do mine as hardwaa suggested.

I had to use a stick with the piece taped on because my hand/arm would not fit.

Does anyone know if this would work with a 64? I don't think it would be any different but I'd like to be sure before I start drilling holes in my cab.

Sure, should be the same. As 777ralph pointed out, there is no need to weld anything, just hold the backing plate in place at the time of install and your done.
Look at the pictures in the thread for placement, about 1/2 way up on the small rear window. Drill 7/16" hole, that is the size of the anchor bolts commonly used.

Mine is a 64. Worked great. I mounted mine back a little further toward the corner, but that's just where my arm fit. Put it high enough so it's above your shoulder, though. Check a new car for placement. Taking the tank out is the hardest part. With a bit of rod tacked on to the plate you might not have to do that.

Ebay has them. I'm putting bucket seat in my 65 and I bought a set of 3 point seat belts with all three mounting anchors reinforcements in a package deal $119 shipped.
