85 Tilt steering wheel pivot pin
 

Hi all, while trying to fix my wobbly steering, I managed to break off the steering wheel pivot pin puller, in the pivot pin itself. Could anyone tell me if there is another way to pull the pin ? Its on the ignition side, so access seems limited. Is this a part that I have to go to a dealership (stealership)? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Please help. Thanks.

Could you post a picture? I think I know what you're talking about but I want to be sure. I used a bolt/slide hammer to pull the pins on mine, you can make a nice slide hammer using vise grips if you have anything to grab on to. I've found this to be a pretty handy reference.

i used a screw when i did mine. What i did was set a small socket against the collumn. Thread the screw into the pin and with two nuts on the screw is i turned the nuts and used the socket and screw as a puller. It took a while but worked great. Id like to get the tool for this but where can it be purchased at?

Did you remove the tension spring? It is under the round cap in the center bottom of the knuckle. If not the pins will not come out. Jay

Hi All, thanks for the replies. I did manage to get the pin out but kinda had to destroy it in the process. I had to drill out the broken piece of the pin puller, well, as much as I could. Then I used an extractor tool to yank the pin out enough to get a vise grip on it. And ta-da, one unthreadable pivot pin.
Thanks 85gmcguy, I found that site very helpful. 54caddy, your made up tool seems better than the "POS" pivot pin puller that I purchased from O'Riellys for like $20. The screw part snapped off in the pivot pin.Big Port Jimmy 6, yes I did. I need to find another set of pivot pins, hopefully not at a stealership.:metal: Arky
