blazer gas filler spout grommet install

Has anyone got any suggestions/pics for installing new rubber grommet around gas filler spout on 72 blazer. I've been playing around with mine and it sure seems tight. Should I install grommet in body first and then try and push filler spout thru?
Thanks for the suggestions.:metal::devil:

been awhile since doing mine but liquid dish soap always helps with grommets and i think i did pull the filler at the same time to replace the rest of the rubber hoses to the tank.

Dish soap and then use a small screw driver if needed to press the inside of the grommet into place.....

.....however if you scratch your paint don't blame me ;) :chevy:

just did mine yesterday, used dish soap to put grommet in without the filler tube in place, then used some 2" long screws through the round mounting plate on this inside to draw the filler neck through the grommet (then replace with proper screws of course), my wife kept pressure on the grommet from the outside just in case it tried to pop out, worked great
