Best bang for the buck?
 

i am new to the 99 and up trucks and i was woundering whats the best power upgrade for the money. i have a 00 1500 2wd 5.3 already got a aftermarket intake and did a muffler delete thanks :chevy:

All depends on who you talk to and how much you would like to spend. One thing is for sure though, these trucks have computers that will need programing after most modifications. A good programmer costs $90 and hour. I have found alot of help about my newer trucks at performancetrucks.net over there is mostly guys with the newer trucks. I have 5 trucks from 67-70 and two 2000's and one 2002 I jump back and forth between sites. John

i'd look into a tune or some electric fans next. you will notice a difference in both right away

thanks for your reples i did a efan. cheep autozone set up but it works i guess. i need to find a local tuner.

also look into underdrive pulleys. but most of the info that i have gotten so far about my 01 tahoe is from ls1truck.com. lots of good info there. i think there's a couple of members here that are members over there too

The tune first. Since you have e-fans, Id go with headers and duals next. ANd of course your cold air intake is a good supporting mod, but go to siliconeintakes.com and make your own like I did. In my sig I listed the Trucool 40K as a mod, its a trans cooler and a big one at that. It dropped my trans tempts hugely. Heat is the #1 killer of transmissions so I'd look into one.

should i go with a programmer? are they really worth it? and if i go with headers what do i do about the o2s? i live in a emissions area

I'd go with a custom Tune over a programmer any day.

As far as the 02's I guess youd have to do shorty headers

Get a custom tune HANDS DOWN!!!!!! Also the corvette trans servo is cheap and very effective if you like a bit firmer shift.

From what I have experienced, a Tune and Long Tube headers are great cheap upgrades that yeild very good gain. As stated electric fans are also a good one. I've got Efans and I did a tune on my Silverado SS and it runs awesome!

Hands down the best mod I've done so far was sending my ECM to Justin Gadberry at Blackbear Performance. I have a K&N FIPK, true duals, and efans (05 came stock with them ;)). But, I just ordered some long tube headers with a cat delete Y-pipe so we'll see how that mod works out, but so far the tune is where its at. I'll post up an install thread on the headers and let you guys know how it goes.
