double transfer cases

I'm thinking about making a 205/203 double setup because A 203 can be had around here for about 25 bucks. (literally, I couldn't give mine away) And I'm Thinking that not only will i get lower gears but wouldn't it also give me higher gears for the highway? Does anyone have one of these setups and do you like them, And do they bring the rpms down on the highway quite a bit? I'm just looking basically for anyone that has one to tell me what you think of it Please. Much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure you will not get higher highway gears. I think the adapters to mate these are fairly expensive so make sure you "need" this setup.

Ok I just thought since when you put them both in lower it doubles the ratio so the same would go for both in high? And maybe bring the rpms down a bit. Of course I don't need this setup but I'm bored with a tax return and wanna build something. lol. I also just remembered finding a 203 with a 10 spline input shaft would be kinda tricky.

Running a doubler is mainly for offroading reasons. It gives you a lower crawling ratio. It's not going to cut down on the rpms in your truck while driving around town.

i want to do if but dont have the $$ for adaptor and $$ for shafts at this time and i think there is some $$ for shifters and some $$ and time for crossmember modification

I know its mainly for offroad which I do quite a bit of. Does anyone have one of these?

If you want to get some really good info, go to ck5.com or pirate4x4.com. Both of those sites will have all of the info that you want/need for putting a doubler in your 4x4. Also, Off road design sells all the parts required to install one in our trucks.

Yes, I believe high range is direct 1:1 ratio in both. Double cases gives more gear reduction in low-low but nothing above 1:1 in high.

Stocker is right. 1:1 and 1:1 is still.... 1:1. In low you will have 2:1 reduction (205 only) and 4:1 (203 range box and 205 in low). Big bucks. I'd love one. www.offroaddesign.com has lots of info. As mentioned, drive shafts, cross members, shifters, likely exhaust work...

For your theory to be correct one of the cases would basically have to have an "overdrive" set of gears in it. So, you would have to be able to put in one rotation and get out 1.3 rotations (just an example). That's basically what OD is in an overdrive transmission. On the other hand the transfer cases you mentioned when shifted into 4 low will divide the input rotations as opposed to multiplying them aka "underdriven". In other words if you put in 1 rotation the output will only turn .5 of a rotation. So when people create a doubler they take the 2:1 of the 203 and bolt it to the 2:1 drive of the 205 giving you a 4:1 crawl (2x2 not 2+2). Hope this helps.

Also, look here

Yeah I looked on ORDs website and there is way more things that I didn't Think about. I have a couple 203s and 205s but none are the correct ones, and quite a bit more modification would be necessary and more exspensive than i thought. Still would be cool to have one though

North west fab I think is the name of it , they have more options for a doubler.10. 27 spline.

I bought my working Warn 8274 winch for $400.00 from this guy about 6 months ago and he had this setup at that time. He's been trying to sell it on CL for a long time now. You might be able to get it for a better price. I've seen it and it is what he says it is. Good honest guy. He's in Vegas. might be worth a call. FWIW
