Insert/Modification to Gas filler tube for modern gas pump nozzles.
1977 C10 250
Has anyone ever come across an insert or modification that would allow most of the modern gas pump nozzles to rest during filling. Around here it seems that many of the stations have a nozzle which must be held during filling to keep it from falling out. Thanks! |

LOL,, ya, I hate those stations.
But I understand laws in county's or states make the stations take those off. What I do when I full up my company ride is,,,,,, Start pumping gas and wedge the gas cap in between the lever and bottom side of handle,,,, and TAAADAAAA,,, Hands free, |

i dont know how true it is but ive seen stickers on the pumps in NY that say its against the law to do that with the gas cap.. in NJ where there are gas attendants they still have the handles that lock open

Use a long bungee cord or tie-down strap hooked to the inside lip of your bed to the nozzle handle to hold it in the tank then prop your cap under the lever if it doesn't have the latch ! |

this thread makes me lol.. so much work to keep from holding a gas nozzle.
here in NC the nozzles kinda wedge in the opening using the weight on the fuel line connecting it to the pump |

The way I read your question.....................You're looking for something to keep the nozzle from falling out of the filler neck, correct? The older necks were for the leaded fuel from days past. When cars/trucks were required to run lead-free fuel the necks were changed to keep leaded nozzles from fitting. You could try and round up a neck from a later model truck. BTW.....Trivia question......What brand fuel was the first to be lead-free? Hint, the brand has always been lead-free since 1915. |
Re: Insert/Modification to Gas filler tube for modern gas pump nozzles.
Some turn the pump nozzle upside down when filling, but normally that still requires holding the trigger while fueling. When I try that, the wire wrapped around the outside of the nozzle tends to get stuck in the filler neck. A few stations around here still have the relatively long, gently curved, no outside wire around the outside nozzles - those fit the curve of the old filler necks nicely and allow for using the trigger hold down clip.

Funny story about unleaded gas..............My Dad owned an Amoco station for many years, I pretty much grew up there. As the government required all gas to be unleaded our customers were complaining how the unleaded gas was going to ruin their cars. We would break the news to them how they had already been using unleaded gas. LOL. |

^ it makes good sense to have those, the amount of chlorofluorocarbons released while you fill up is more than a prius releases driving across country

We have that type here. I have managed to find a balance point where I can set it and forget it. But I do have to remember to lift up on the nozzle before I take it out, or I spill about a half a cup. It's like the tip of the nozzle rests on the top of the neck.

Id just get a filler neck out of a newer truck, anything that never had cats on it will probably have a bigger opening in the filler neck.
