New Tires and Rims!

3 Attachment(s)
I've got new treads. I had to buy some 16X10 rims in order to fit the 33/12.50/16 Interco Trxus tires. The rims are Rock Crawlers.

I wonder if I got the wrong back spacing. They stick out too dang far.......either that or I'm too dang old!

What do you think?

John

Sorry, I forgot, the backspacing is 4 inches. Only about 1/2 inch of my rear drums is covered. I didn't take a pic of that.

I think the BS looks spot on.

Looks great John! The sticking out part looks par for the course when you sign up for 10” wide wheels. I prefer no more than 8" wide for that reason. The off-set looks right.

Re: New Tires and Rims!

Wow that one tire took way too much weight to balance? Whats the deal. I have ran big mud tires for years and never had one take that much to balance it. I think they look great and the back spacing looks fine. Only problem is it will throw mud and rocks up a lot. It your worried about your paint you might want to move em in a bit.

On that tire with all the weight try rotating the the tire on the rim a 180 degrees and reblancing sometimes that will lessen the amount of weight. If not I would contact you supplier and see about a swap...

I didn't notice that weight! WOW....You're right! That looks a bit extreme. Might want to look into that John....maybe even trade them for 8" wheels

Re: New Tires and Rims!

Thanks guys.
I am going to take the "over weighted" tire and rim back in and get the tire shop to give it another try!

Larry,
I'm thinking that is what I should of ordered in the first place. I was worried about the 12.50 wearing too fast in the middle?

I will post some more pictures after I get done with the motor swap....aka "paint and other things that I didn't plan on doing"!

Here's a pic of the brake drums. Seems a little extreme!

John,

The backspacing does look a little odd when looking at the rear drum like that, but it looks normal on the body side though. Hmmmm...... Just for more confusion here's a picture of the rear drum on my '69 K10 with a 12" wheel. I can't remember if the offset is 4" or 4.5".

Here's a picture showing how deep they are. How deep is the lip on your wheels?

Most of the guys I see running drums on 3/4 and 1-ton axles stick out like that. It is fine.

I gotta ask about them weights too. I'd want my money back if I had to run that many weights. Have you tried breaking the bead, and turning the tire 180* on the wheel? I'm told that can help. Considering some scary stories I've heard about those tires already, that just concerns me.

I haven't made it back to town to get the tire rebalanced. The other 3 just have one weight on them.

I never payed attention to how far the drums stuck out until now! I am going to run with it anyway!

Thanks

Sdailey "Here's a picture showing how deep they are. How deep is the lip on your wheels?

Thanks for the reference pics.
I will have to measure how deep they are.

Re: New Tires and Rims!

make sure you keep them up to pressure. i know alot of buds with those rims (some 16" some 16.5") and they LOVE to pop off the bed when they aren't right up to pressure.

Looks nice! Yep, that truck is way to clean to not fix that firewall by the way...

Disregard my post I just realized that your truck is a 3/4 ton model. I was just assuming that it was a K10.

Nice looking wheel/tire combo though. The truck looks good too.:metal:

Re: New Tires and Rims!

14-bolt drums always hang in like that. Those look badass. I've never had problems with tires popping of of 10" wheels. Can't understand why anyone would think that. I've run then so low I'm embarrassed to admit. Never threw a tire. The balancing is downright unprofessional. Sorry tire guy,you may get away with first time mount ing and balancing most all the time, but when you get one that takes all that you know you need to dismount and rotate to get the heavy spot of both the tire and wheel way from each other. Not rocket science, just tire mounting 101.

We should start a "Let's see some pics of your 3/4 ton brake drums!" It's a little dark, but you can see them if you squint.

Re: New Tires and Rims!

Have them turn that tire 180 degrees on the rim and it will balance out better. There is about 10 pounds of weight on there.
