Crew Cab
ok i hhave a 79 k30 crew cab. i sold the dana 60. i have a suburban with good axels i want to use 1/2 ton runing gear so would u just cut the ton frame to make it a short bed and use a 1/2 ton back half or would use the burb front half and a 1/2 ton truck back half i can go either way the burb is rusty bad so i bought it for the running gear got good 350 t 400 tranny and 3:42 gears what will be the best way

Re: Crew Cab
either way will work but i imagine cutting the burb an a short bed truck an put it together

Re: Crew Cab
thats what i think i think the burb frame be plenty big enough and loose the big frame less whight

Re: Crew Cab
That is how Doug and I built the frame under his crew short dually and this is the abuse it gets put through.

Re: Crew Cab
I wouldn't do either, I would just shorten the one ton frame. That is the way i did mine and I can't imagine putting two different frames from different trucks together would be easier. Plus I think this way gives you the best looking and strongest end result. JMO.

Re: Crew Cab
well then u have to put spring perch on the 1/2 ton axel to make it match the crew cab springs i want to run 1/2 ton axels not 3/4 ton or 1 tons

Re: Crew Cab
or swap the hangers from the 1/2 ton frame. Again, not that hard to do. I figured if your up to the task of cutting and welding a frame, knocking out a few rivits or welding two spring perches wouldn't be something beyond your capabilities. Again, in my opinion its the better looking end result.

Re: Crew Cab
I'm in the prosses of doing this right now. Unless you are using a 1 ton dually the spring mounts ar the same. If it is a dually they put spring mounts narrower
|
Re: Crew Cab
This is not true, all one ton frames either dual or single rear wheel have narrower perches. I have had a 79 and 84 crew cab single wheel K30, both had narrow perches.

Re: Crew Cab
dropd80s is correct the 3/4 tons were wider. I had thought the donner truck I was using was 1 ton but in fact it is a 3/4 ton sorry for the confusion.

Re: Crew Cab
my crew cab is a dooly and i sold the dana 60 out of it and going to sell the duel wheel rear and i want all 1/2 ton rear out of my burb under it

Re: Crew Cab
the way i see i got to cut a frame any way i go. So why not loose the lbs of a 8 inch frame and go with the burb fame cause i want a short box crew cab so i have to cut the one ton frame so why not loose all the lbs i can
