350 block w/vortec heads

I have a 1998 350 2 bolt main with VORTEC heads I really need to get out of my way. I'll take $300 and that will get you the block, heads, valve covers, oil pan, push rods, roller lifters, rocker arms. Does not have a crank or cam. Was going to build 383 but changed my mind.

:whine: Why I gotta be on an island?!?!? Thats a deal I would grab in a heartbeat here!!:whine:

A little curious here. All 98 350's were vortec 350 motors. ALL vortec motors are 4bolt blocks.

1998 Vortec engine

Well buddy you're wrong on this one. This motor came out of a 1998 Chevrolet truck. I thought for sure it would be a 4 bolt, but when I pulled off the oil pan there were only 2 bolts on each main cap.

gldevall, i used to work for a GM dealer, and with all of the L31 blocks i have seen, all were 4 bolts. the service replacement for the block is PN: 10105123

Quote:

GM Performance Parts Catalog:

This engine block is used in 1986-99 Gen I heavy-duty applications. It has 4.00" diameter cylinder boresand four-bolt main bearing caps. This block is machined for a one-piece rear crankshaft seal.
this is also the same part number as the factory replacement block that you will buy from a GM dealer.

gldevall 03-20-2003 09:54 AM

I'll get the number off of the block and post it. I'll also take a picture of it showing that is only a 2 bolt main.

this is really interesting :)
kinda like those super rare 4bolt 305's

gldevall 03-20-2003 02:31 PM

Well, it may be a 305. But I was told it was a 350. Now you guys have me wondering what the hell kind of motor I have.

Tom 03-20-2003 04:43 PM

hmmm, never thought about that. It might be a 305. Just take a head off and check the bore size. If its under 4", its not a 350 ;)

Block Clarafication

OK guys, I finally found out what I have. I found a casting # on the top of the block near the rear and it is 10243880. It has a 4" bore and I looked up the casting # and found the following.

MorTec.com

"10243880...350...95-00...2 or 4...Vortec truck, Gen.I crate motors and "ZZ4", roller cam, one piece rear seal"

I also took some pics of the block and the heads that I will post tomorrow. Any more questions? Just ask.

Thanks to everyone,

Gary
