2002 S10 ZR2 Dash Speaker Questions

The driver's side dash speaker on my 2002 S10 ZR2 has died. I bought a pair of Sony 4x6 speakers that may fit with a little work. I know the wire connection is a push on, and that I can buy adapters so that I don't have to alter the wiring. The main problem is the oem speaker is 10 ohms. The Sony speakers are 4 ohm. Any chance this will work? Has anybody here replaced the oem dash speakers with aftermarkets?

So the factory speaker is 10ohm? or 1ohm?

In either case, that's freakin weird. Factory systems tend to be though. Just form a standpoint of running it in conjunciton with a stock deck, it might drop the ohm load too low and hurt the deck. You could potentially fry the internal amp. Waht I would do at the same time is replace the factory deck with a new unit. Solves all the problems.

Otherwise, factory speakers are your best bet to got trhough it without any hassle.

Are you replacing the headunit or keeping the stock one? If you are replacing the stock headunit or have already replaced it then go ahead and replace the speakers. As far you're question about the wiring I know that Crutchfield has wiring adapters so that you do not have to cut your factory speaker wires, check them out to see if they still have them available.
