what to clean frame with? and body mount ?
4 Attachment(s)
i took my bed off yesterday, god is it heavy! and i need a environmentally safe way to clean it as my and my neighbors well are within 30ft of the truck. i was gonna try pressure washing most the frame, but what else can i use?
also im pretty sure my body mounts are junk, im wondering how much the cab has sunk? the reason im asking is i've been wanting to lift truck roughly 2inches and im wondering how much i can gain with new mounts, im hoping an 1in my cab is 1/2in from frame in the back, im wondering how someones with new stock mounts measures? thanks everyone! |

Simple Green works really well. I've also had great luck with some stuff called B-52, but it will take paint off if you don't dilute it enough. You'll have to show us some after pics when you get it all cleaned up.

is b-52 good for the ground/ water? i plan on painting the suspension, diff gunmetal gray with red shocks and diff cover, and the frame im gonna rubber coat or maybe rhino line..think it will look good at least in my head..thanks for the reply!

Re: what to clean frame with? and body mount ?
Just re-read your post and noticed the environmentally safe part. Not sure either of these lend themselves to being environmentally friendly, although I think Simple Green is more so than the B-52. You could go at it with a wire wheel on a grinder, but it would be a ton of work and ridiculously messy. Maybe you could hit it with a pressure washer and soap see if that breaks up the big stuff.

get the driveway degreaser from home depot, wear gloves when messing with it, and a presuure washer. done....

Yep, the body mounts are shot!! I would go after the chassis with a scraper and get off as mutch as I could that way first. That way you capture the undercoating and majority of oil soaked dirt. Then I would go after it with a product called "Oil Eater". Cosco sells it by the gallon. Spray it on undilluted and let it set for a while, then take a "Oil Eater" soaked scrub brush to scrub the chassis down. Pressure wash it all off and repeat as necessary. WES

I CLEANED UP MY FRAME WITH A SCRAPER AND A WIRE BRUSH FIRST IT WAS THICK!! .. I had th etruck in the garage and it was raining so i then used my shopvac and pickd it all up.. the next day i used PURPLE POWER from good ole Wallmart and a pressure washer.. no matter wht your gonna end up with greas and gunk in the ground

POR marine clean works fantastic at removing 40 yrs of caked on junk. simple green works great for maintainance and general clean up. both are biodegradable.

^^^^^ AGREED!
Marine Clean from POR15 is great. Plus it says it's biodegradeable. I used it to degrease the frame and crossmember in the front of my '72 GMC. Also used it on the firewall. Best part is... it won't eat the paint. Gary |
