starting then dieing??

my motor was starting and running just fine...until i went to start it today and it starts and dies but if i feather the throttle it will blurp and pop...then die fuel pump sounds as it should

it has gas cause i just put some in it...the only thing that is different is i unhooked the factory gauges which i dont think would affect anything?

99 5.3....

Do you have a way of checking fuel pressure?

Re: starting then dieing??

check for vacuum leaks if it can't maintain idle, double check that the MAF is connected and reasonably clean. Both can choke a car out.

Re: starting then dieing??

i checked fuel rail pressure-good
scanned codes-good
cleaned the maf
cleaned injectors

still starts then dies.

where specifically should i look for on the vacuum leak?

Re: starting then dieing??

just realized my egr plug got blown out and was on the floor... could this be the culprit???

Re: starting then dieing??

the plug on the intake manifold, or the blockoff on the exhaust mani?
If its the intake then yes, thats a huge vaccuum leak introducing un-measured air into the manifold. I'm surprised it wouldn't throw a code, but not impossible.

plug on the intake manifold...the reason it didnt throw a code is that the egr is programmed out>??

Re: starting then dieing??

Ya, I would assume its acting like a giant vac leak. Even if the egr was programmed out, I would think all the extra air might trip another parameter, but who knows. Plug that up, and see what she does.

Re: starting then dieing??

Some times engine has to be running for a certin amount of time to set a code or the ecm has to be testing for it. I would bet that is the problem but how did it come out?
