Parking Brake Questions
 

I have a '68 SWB. During the restoration, never really bothered with the parking brake system.

Can anyone help me out with part numbers on everything needed for the system? From the handle all the way to the drum.

I was planning on purchasing through LMC, but the diagrams and descriptions have confused me even more. I've noticed that NAPA carries the cables as well.

I need to get back under the truck and double check but all I need is...

40" cable + intermittent cable + handle that goes under the column

Right...?

handle is attached to the main gear system with the pedal, then the main line that runs from that through the firewall and to the frame (hardware there to mount it). Then the one that runs from there to the back....that meets the one that runs to the drums both sides of the rear axle (hardware there to mount it)

that's my recollection....maybe someone else can chime in w/ part numbers...

this picture may help ya....usually they are worth a 100 words...and that's close to what VA72C10 worte :lol: (BTW...67/68 had the hand operated ebrake, 69-72 has foot operated ebrake)
Couple things about where to get them....first off you may want to look in the parts board for folks parting trucks (make sure you specify if your truck is short or long bed), or I think you can order complete from inlinetube.com

Yowza... Inline wants $200+ shipping for the set. I was thinking <$100... I really need the parts, well, today. Let me see what the local parts store can do.

I guess I just don't understand the parking brake system. What's the purpose of the lines going toward the rear passenger side and in front of the firewall. I just would have assumed it would go straight from handle to drum. Is it possible to do just that?

maybe an aftermarket system might work that way, but the factory system mounts to the frame for strength and mounts at the rear to the piece so that both sides pull evenly....

It's more of a "let's pass inspection!" type deal than a "I really care about the parking brake system" type deal :lol:

But I don't want it breaking after spending all day wiring this up.

go to carquest if you have one in your area. a knowledgeable person there will have everything you need.

I would but the nearest one is about 30-45 minutes away when NAPA is about 3 minutes away.

Spaz, theres a guy parting a 68 in the parts forum. Take a look he might have the whole setup.
