AC High Pressure Line Repair
 

Below is the picture of the defective high pressure line for the AC on my 1990 Chevrolet Suburban with rear air. *The damage is located at bend on the upper right corner. *This part is worth the price gold at junk yards where I live so how can I fix it?

i know that here in Austin i can have some of the lines fabricated for less than i would pay at some of the salvage yards. http://www.austinrebuildersinc.com/ there may be something like this in San Antonio or Houston

Does anybody know where I can buy this line new? LMC sells this line (called a A/C tube assembly condenser out) for $19.95 but it's not for Suburban's with rear A/C. The junkyard wants a lot more than that if I can even find one.

Many thanks for looking. I guess this part is specific to 85-91 Suburbans. The older ones seem to be slightly different. I went to the dealer and they told me this part had been discontinued. I then called about 20 salvage yards and finally found a salvage yard that thought they might have this part. However, it's about 150 miles away from me.

But before giving up, I'm going to see if it can be welded. I found a local shop that may be able to weld it up.

did you visit the link i posted? the first line on the page reads "Don't let the name fool you - LARGE selection of NEW A/C components available in house". I realize this is in austin and not local to you but it might be worth a call or email.

call around to custom shops
a friend has a van with a lowered floor ,the rear AC line went, turns out a small local shop does custom work and remade it...

I have one but after looking at yours again, I think mine is just a little different. It came off an 86 diesel burb. I'll double check it tomorrow and let you know.

This forum is awesome. I want to thank y'all for all the help and suggestions on this A/C line. To make a long story short, I found the part I needed at a junk yard in San Antonio. I had called about 30 junk yards and only 1 junk yard in Austin which is 150 miles from us had the part I needed and they wanted a whopping $50. Yesterday, we happened to be driving through San Antonio and I saw a wrecking yard with a Suburban however, they were not parting it out but the owner told me about Pick-N-Pull. We ended up checking it out and there were probably 20 Suburbans of my vintage and nearly all of them still had the part I was looking for. I ended up pulling the part from a Suburban that still had freon in it so I even grabbed the Accumulator/Dryer. I made sure to seal off that dryer so I can reuse it. I ended up paying $8 for the A/C line and $8 for the dryer.

I'm also converting back to the banned refrigerant so I picked up a low pressure switch that will support the banned refrigerant. I now will be able to run the system at much lower pressure and hopefully it'll run a lot cooler. Anyways, I hope to keep this vehicle on the road for another 500k miles. The Cummins that's in it only has 40k miles so it's barely broken in.
