Wood Bed question...

Am I missing a couple of cross supports where the red arrow is? If so, is there anything else missing? Yeah, I know...the wood.

Re: Wood Bed question...

that small one needs to come back to the first arrow

Re: Wood Bed question...

So basically I need two of the "regular" supports after I move the small one back?

Long box should have 5 of the bigger crossmembers

It's not a long bed...it's a short bed stepside.

It looks correct to me my short step is set up just like that

Re: Wood Bed question...

oh... someone might know better but i think that small one just needs moved back sorry for the confusion

Re: Wood Bed question...

The two spots you are pointing to you just use big fender washers on the bottom of the wood. I have a zinc plated bolt kit for a short step bed if you need a bolt kit .I well sell for 30.00 shipped if you need it . I changed to a polished stainless hidden bolt bed strip kit.

Anyone willing to crawl under their truck and snap a few pics for me?

Re: Wood Bed question...

4 big ones for your short step. The small one bolts to the wood for reinforcement. Check the LMC cataloge on line...very good picture of this setup.

Here's what mine look liked after I removed the wood. Short Step 67-72 style. I was told it is missing a tall cross sill.

Evidentally though that sill wouldn't bolt to the frame... 'cause just like yours there are no holes in the frame for that cross sill? Seems strange to me. It's all good. I put a custom pressure treated plywood floor in mine... put the cross sills back just like I found them.

Re: Wood Bed question...

My truck was missing those two also, so I am going to go with they aren't supposed to be there.

It looks like you could put two more of the skinny braces in there though...

Agreed. Right in this thread we have (3) trucks that are all the same, yet don't match LMC's diagram....

Re: Wood Bed question...

I wonder if the LMC diagram is general in nature and meant to cover long and short stepsides...

Anyway, Awesome shots of the underside and such. Much thanks! Someone took this truck apart and I'm trying to put it back together again...lol

Yes the LMC diagram is generic, applicable to long and short bed trucks. That is why under quan. for the cros sills it shows A/R (as required).

Thought I would browse some threads for other short bed photos.

Here are a couple short fleets, with the same cross sill configuration we have too.

Re: Wood Bed question...

LMC probably is wrong, although there is 8 bed to frame carrige bolts in the kit I bought. I have a pre-drilled set of wood from bedwoodandparts.com in my living room so I'll count the holes when I get home.

Your are good, as is! I sent an email to tech. support at Mar-k stating the following:
To: Tech Support
Subject: Cross Sills

Would you have time to help with a question? I have a Chevy '67 short stepside, see attached a photo.

http://inlinethumb49.webshots.com/47...200x200Q85.jpg

I am being told that I am missing some cross sills. I don't think that is true. What is the "factory correct" configuration for a shortbed stepside in the 63-72 design.

Thanks for your help.

John
Here is their response:
John:

I asked the engineer to look at your picture and this is his response:

He is not missing any cross members. All that I see that is wrong is the placement of the reinforcement strip. It should be just before the third cross sill, after the frame arch. His is before the frame arch and too close to the #2 cross member.

Thank you,

So to summarize, the short beds are supposed to have 3 cross sills, 2 in the front and 1 in the back, and (1) reinforcement sill.
