Re: Holley850 700R help

The TV cable on the 700R4 is NOT a kickdown cable. Trying to adjust it like one will lead to rapid failure of your trans. Read this

If not connected it will not kick it out of overdrive when going up a hill. Or maybe in better terms, it will NOT KICK down.. thus the name, kick down cable. regardless of the name.

Not trying to be an a$$ here, but if you think it's a "kick down" and that it only operates the downshift point, then you obviously don't know anything about the 700r4 transmission. The TV cable controls EVERYTHING on the inside of an automatic overdrive transmission. It does not just control the downshift from 4th to 3rd. If it's not set properly, your transmission will burn itself up in less than 1000 miles. Period. If you're not exactly, 100% certain on how this all works, I think you should re-consider using that particular carburetor for your application.

I used that bracket with my Holley 670 Avenger Series carb. The bracket has worked very well for the last year or so. I can take a picture of my setup over the weekend. I won't have any daylight to work with until Saturday.

Re: Holley850 700R help

The bracket in the lower pic is exactly what you need as well as a bracket to hold the accel and tv cables in place. Holley also makes that. I had both of the holley brackets on my 670 street avendger and it worked great. That trans is a good trans when built properly. Just make darn sure that you get the adjustment correct or it will for sure burn trans up in as little as 3 miles. I set mine close and drove it to a reputible shop trans shop and the set it right. Have almost 2 years and over 400 hp going threw mine and no problems as of now.

Ok, I have the bracket in the lower pic already and i have the bracket to hold the 2 cables in place. i just cant figure out how to hook up the bracket in the lower pic. Seems like something is missing on the bottom of the carabutor linkage.

I see the problem now. Is that your carb in first big pic? It must be very old or something. Cause it is missing a large portion. Look at summit and do a close up view of a new carb. They have a different linkage now. My carb was a 4150 ro 4160. You may not be able to use that carb with your trans or need a kit of some kind. This is what the linkage should look like. This throttle body has exact same linkage as a newer holley should.

My transmission guy couldn't get the cable adjusted properly in that position. We drove back to his shop and added a cable stud in place of the lower bolt, worked perfectly.

Ineresting... Glad it is working out for you. That is the only down side to these transmissions the stupid tv cable. If it were not for them these things would be a lot better.
