Sm465 Swap Questions 1977 K10 short bed
Well I was out fourwheeling Sunday and my th350 took a crap. IT sucked had to get the truck towed 70 miles home. I am done with automatics!
I have a 3 day run coming up this weekend and would like to make it but have a lot of work ahead of me. I have been reading up on this swap for quite some time but still need some adivece and a few questions answered. Parts I have: All cast Iron SM465 out of a 1977. Hydro clutch bell housing Hydro Clutch Fork Hydro clutch pedal set up Adapter to np205 !0 spline coupler 10 spline input shaft for my Np205 Flywheel Still Need Clutch , Pressure plate Throw out bearing Piolt bushing Master Slave Line Reverse light wiring Questions: Will a Hydro set up work with a 3 finger clutch set up or does it need a diaphragm style clutch? Does this use a pilot bushing or bearing? I am firmilar with the bushings but have never dealt with the bearing style. A flywheel uses different bolts to connect to the crank shaft then a flex plate correct? I don't have gaskets for the adapter between the Trans and T case. Should I attempt to cut some from gasket paper or just use RTV? Thanks For any help you can provide! |

Definitely use a bushing. Less moving parts = less to go wrong. I have chewed the input shaft up on more than one transmission with bearings that failed. Not sure on the flywheel thing. I don't deal with autos if I can avoid it. Personally, I'd cut a gasket...but you would probably be fine with a thick coat of RTV. |

Flywheel bolts are longer. Take the time to get a good set of ARP's or at the very least a grade 8 bolt. x2 on the bushing, bearings never seem to hold up long, although many still swear by the bearing.

what throw out bearing should i use? One for a 78 or an 86 blazer with the hydro clutch , Does it even matter.
I will use a bushing never liked the idea of a roller bearing Does anyone know what size bolts go from the adapter to the back of the transmission? |
Re: Sm465 Swap Questions 1977 K10 short bed
Got a flywheel from a 78
Got a 12 inch clutch from a 78 got a 3 finger presure plate from a 78 Got the master, slave, line, T?O bearing and piot bearin for a 86 K5 Benn reading diffrent thing online... will a 73 3 finger pressure plate set up for a 12 inch clutch work with the stock 86 and up hydro set up? heard some say it rubs? Some say it work fine |
Re: Sm465 Swap Questions 1977 K10 short bed
I'd say use the T/O bearing from the 86. I have no idea on the clutch.

Nevermind. I'd use the throwout from the 86 too.

Re: Sm465 Swap Questions 1977 K10 short bed
yeah well after reading on CK5.com I found out a brog and beck AKA a 3 finger clutch will not work with the Hydrollic clutch fort because it will come in contact with the pressure plate. the 3 finger pressure plate is about 1 inch taller then the diaprham style.
I am gonna do a write up on this swap because there is just too much mis- information out there. It is going fairly well aside from the small changes in the firewall from 77 to 86. I will post up a link to the write up when i do it. |
