Re: Template for Arm Rest Holes 64-66
I was working on the door panels and found out the arm rest location is different on the 64 and 66 cabs I have.
I am talking about the square holes in the doors. It is where the threaded square plastic nuts push into the doors for the armrests. The '66 doors have 2 sets of holes (4 total) to use for 2 different locations. They have the set for the '64 and the '66. The '64 doors only have 1 set and they are further to the rear of the door by 2 3/8" from the template I used. I was provided a template that has been floating around (link below). The template was only good for the farthest forward set of holes on the '66 doors. Make sure to measure the doors before drilling the holes in the door panels. Good thing I had 2 sets of door panels. |
Re: Template for Arm Rest Holes 64-66
My 65 Chevrolet C10 has arm rests in it. They use 2 bolts to hold them in. My 66 GMC did not have the armrests but had 4 holes in them. I ordered arm rests from LMC and they only have 2 holes and they do not line up with either trucks interior panels holes and they do not look like the original ones in my 65. I am confused ?

The armrest holes on the 1966 doors are 5 15/16" apart, center to center. The armrest holes in the 1964 doors are 5 7/8" apart, center to center. Both of my cabs were built in Freemont, CA and both are Chevrolet cabs. |

Yeah, Vernski, sounds about right - that exact kind of corporate parts planning explains the existence of the TH375 trans I inherited with my truck years ago!

Re: Template for Arm Rest Holes 64-66
The '66 originally used a different arm rest than the '55-'65 as shown here.....
http://www.classicparts.com/1966-68-...ctinfo/19-641/ When I put arm rests on my '66 Suburban, I purchased the early sytle as they were advertised as for up thru '66. This was before I discovered that '66 arm rests were different. I think I like the early arm rests better. BTW. Classic Parts have the early arm rests for $35.00 each, and the '66-'68 arm rests for $17.00 each. |

I have the armrest that comes up on your link above at classic parts, the holes center to center are 5 3/4" the holes in my 66 gmc door panels are 5 5/16" no joy.....I guess I could drill a new rear hole......but think I will try and find the older ones. If I can verify the distance between the holes. :gmc2:thanks to all for the help......Kieth |
Re: Template for Arm Rest Holes 64-66
On my 64 I am putting on new arm rests and I bought the plastic inserts that the screws go into from http://www.truckandcarshop.com/
just place the inserts in and attached the arm rests, very easy. |
