ford dana 60 questions/14 bolt ff

i know i can't use it under anything i own since it's a driver side drop BUT a friend wants to trade his ford 60 and GM 14 bolt full floater for a 14 bolt semi floater i have. i know it sounds like a no brainer trade but the 60 is a ball joint axle and is missing the driver side knuckle, spindle, tie rod, hub and rotor. i talked with a neighbor that builds rock crawlers and he said the ball joint version is not as desireable as the kingpin version and is probably the "metric 60" which uses the ford only hub-centric wheels. i have no use for any of this stuff but thought i might be able to make a few bucks off it since guys converting late model GM trucks need the driver side drop. i'll ask you 4x4 experts--what would you do if offered this trade?
the 60 has 3:73 gears and the 14 bolt ff is unknown at this time as it's still under the 3/4 ton truck.

Your neighbor is right. People do not want that axle. Around my area, people just scrap that kind of axle. The 14bff is a good deal though. Around my area they go for $100 to $400 depending on options.

Why would the guy trade a FF for a semi floater? But do the trade if your SF is stock and you don't have a ton of cash into it. Try to sell the 60 if you can and keep/sell the FF.

thanks for the reply. my SF is stock, 4:10 gears and oem limited slip/posi. i'm sure his FF is stock also, original 74 chevy 2wd, 3/4 ton. he wants my SF so it won't have the hub sticking out in the center of the wheel.

I would think with all the people who go "Ga Ga" when they hear "Dana60" that someone would snatch it up. It may not be the most desirable version, but it still is the big boy compared to other axles. Maybe it's not a $1,000 axles, but surely 1/2 that. And,what about people who own trucks that axle belongs in? Not everybody is a rockcrawler, especially not 88-98 guys who just want a tougher truck.

Tim,
i thought about the late model GM guys wanting to lose the indepentent stuff. as i said above , i have no use for any of it- both my 72's have 14 bolt FF rears in them now. if the 60 was a passenger side drop, i'd modify it to fit one of my 72's just so i could say it's got a "60". i'll probably do the trade and see what happens as far as selling it off.

Ive seen balljoint 60s go for around $500 in nor cal so im sure someone would want it.
They may be mostly undesirable but their not totally useless.

Yea I say go for it. I no its not the top dog of the ford axles but I am sure you could probably get a couple hundred bucks out of it. Plus the Full Floater is way better then the semi floater so I see it as a bonus all the way around. Good luck
