Bench to buckets.....can I see your brackets please?
I picked up a very nice set of 6 way power leather buckets out of a late model GM yesterday. Im going to put these in my '84 K10 that currently has the stock factory bench in it.
Can you all show me some pics of the brackets that you've fab'd up and used in this type of conversion please. I have access to a welder and cutting tools so I can pretty much make whatever I need, but I was hoping to get a few photos and ideas here first to maybe speed the precess and not have so much "trial and error". Well it looks like I may be able to use the two exsisting rails from the bench, but it looks like the inner two mounts will be custo-fab. The floor contour seems to be the same on the inner and outer section, so maybe if I found another set of bench rails I could use two per bucket and modify them to fit? I know more than two people have done this, it can be that big of a deal.....anybody else have any brackts they have fab'd up? Posted via Mobile Device |

I have never done a bucket install in a square, just in a Honda Civic and CRX, but you will likely end up with a higher seat due to extra metal fabricated to adapt the new seats.
Maybe posting a shot of the bottom of the new seat will help get some ideas from the forum members. Congratulations on getting seats with integral seat belts - now you can get modern belts and don't have to worry about making the old belts work, as long as your new seats are well secured to the floor. Considering the cost of recovering and rebuilding a stock seat, you made the right choice. |

Ok, I'll take a few pics of the bottom. Ive found buckets before that were year/time correct for these trucks, but when I checked with the upholstery shop to have them rebuilt/recovered I almost fell out! It was insane what they wanna charge. Now, I have no idea how labor intensive upholstery work is, so the price may be justifiable, but it was gonna be close to $700 for them to re-do a set of low back K5 buckets that I was gonna put in the K10.
Here is a pic of the bottom of the drivers seat. Pretty basic, 4 holes. Right side is just tabs coming off the rail and the left side bolt hole is actually in the rail itself. First thoughts are that it'd be easiest to just use the existing bench rail and weld the seat directly to it and fab up a match out of square tubing and add some tabs to bolt into the floor, then weld the other side of the seat directly to the fab'd rail. Upholstery is very labor intensive. You have building rent, taxes, insurance, materials, labor costs, etc. There is cutting out the pieces, gluing the foam, sewing, removing the old covers, fixing the springs, foam repair, and then installing all the hog rings, screws, etc. THEN you have to make a profit on top of all that to pay your own bills. That price is not out of range that's only 350 a seat. The foam alone for truck buckets is $304 from Classic Industries.

i found those seat are way to large for our trucks i would just try and set them in there before you even worry about mounts i know i have seen some use them but i have some in my shop and there was no way i could have used them and i am not that big
