How in the world do you measure a driveshaft?

You don't know, so its not silly. Measure center to center of the front/rear joints. If you have a slip yoke, IMO, you want about 2/3's to 3/4 engagement of the slip on the trans output.

I printed this out, and filled it in when I had a driveshaft made locally...the driveshaft dude was appreciative.

How much of the nose of the drive shaft should enter my trans... Does it make a defference on length since it's a manual trans and not an auto

I don't remember how much went in, because I don't remember how long the shaft is, but I've enclosed a pic of my old shaft, in the old 3spd...it looks like 1 1/8" of shaft sticks out, with weight on the suspension. My new driveshaft, in my new trans has about the same ammount of shaft sticking out.

My driveshaft shop has me bottom the yoke into the trans then back it out 3/4 of an inch. Then measure center to center of the u joints for length.
