Factory hood hinge mod help

I remember reading a mod that someone did with their factory hood hinges. What I remember is they removed the big bulky spring and had used a gas shock similar to what is used on a hatchback. I think the thread had some real good pics. The help I need is finding the thread. I have a good idea on how to do it however the idea stemmed from this post that I have searched and searched for.

Ya i have seen the ones you are talking about this would use the factory hinge without the spring and use a gas strut about 18" long

Not sure keV my truck is bagged, aired out the fenders sit on the tires in the front so on my truck as long as it's above that height I should be fine.

Re: Factory hood hinge mod help

from the pics it seems like it would close!

i had to pull my fenders and just for good measure pulled the heater box. i might even have to trim one of the mounting holes off the hinges...

wonder if a shock could be put in place of the spring instead of mounting a long one like the one in the pic..?

Re: Factory hood hinge mod help

I have seen some aftermarket ones similar to what you are talking about but the strength of the gas shock would be crazy to only be 6" long

My thought was to use the shocks and then a door pull kit on the hood latch with a keyless remote would be a cool little mod to open the hood

good point, probably why they went with a huge strut lol

hood latch idea sounds cool though, would like to see that setup
