72 rat project
picked this truck up, already posted some pics in my 69 build thread but i figured i would start a thread of its own
put a seat in it today. it had nasty buckets. i got some satin black paint and wire wheeled the floor and painted it. not very happy with it so im going to go back and hit it with flat black. i want to get door panels to match the seat. also have to go to the junkyard and find matching seatbelts. i need to paint the outside all flat black too. only half if it is flat right now. i just want it to look halfway presentable for now, later on i will fix the body. http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/SANY0534.jpg http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/SANY0536.jpg http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/SANY0538.jpg http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/SANY0540.jpg http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/SANY0542.jpg http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/o...e/SANY0543.jpg |
Re: 72 rat project
you can see i didnt finish painting the dash because i didnt like it, and i needed to tape it off anyway. i will get some flat black paint tomorrow. the little 355 in this truck will really run. i wasnt expecting it to run so good with stock heads on it. i need a driveshaft before it goes very far tho.

Re: 72 rat project
going to try and keep this one driveable and resist the urge to tear it apart. im going to 2/4 drop it. do red wheels with white walls. keep it very simple. i need to collect little things like interior pieces. lights. ect. i am going to put front and rear roll pans on it. main reason being to put tail lights in. im keeping the truck flat black. not going to mess with much body work for now.
also need to rewire most of the truck, its been hacked terribly. i need to pull the column apart too. the right turn signal stays blinking and the lever moves freely on the column. im assuming it came apart inside? |
Re: 72 rat project
need to get a driveshaft for it. got the brakes working, someone replaced a line and never put fluid back in or bled them

what u got planned for it
|
Re: 72 rat project
simple and unique. i dont want alot of money tied up in it, just want to have alittle fun with it while im restoring my 69. im planning on a budget of $4000 . i bought it for $2000 so that leaves $2000 left. main things i want to do is
one piece driveshaft(old one is literally about to fall out of truck) fix wiring find interior pieces(going for red/black theme) flat black exterior with red wheels/white walls 2/4 drop engine/trans are in great shape already has 14 bolt 3.73 posi rear. mechanically were good to go just need cosmetics also, it needs a stall badly. too much cam in it for stock stall |
Re: 72 rat project
sounds good cant wait to see the updates
|
Re: 72 rat project
rebuilt another edelbrock i had laying around and changed the metering rods and jets up. i got rid of most of the hesitation it had, smoothed the idle out and picked up a good bit of HP. . biggest thing is it needs a stall badly. i need to buy a bigger accelerator pump nozzle for it and it should be good to go. she runs a bit warm so i need to figure that out. the guy threw in a redone radiator in the bed. i may put it in but first im going to check out the T-stat

Re: 72 rat project
i think theyre just the original 72 350 truck heads, i have a nice set of camel humps in the garage... hmm. i think it would put out a good bit more hp with the camel humps. its already over 300 easily. id say it will easily run 14s now.

Re: 72 rat project
