Power Steering Pulley not aligned
2 Attachment(s)
This power steering pulley is sitting out about 1/4 inch further than the crankshaft pulley. Is this the wrong Power steering pump for 1972 307 ? Any ideas?

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
Could the damper/balancer be drawn out a bit to make up the difference?

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
Is your P/S pulley pressed on all the way? Is it the correct pulley? You might be able to use some washers between the crankshaft pulley and the dampener to space it a out a bit further.
Just some thoughts. |
Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
I got the power steering pump off of e-bay years ago and I'm wondering if it might be for something newer than a 72. I'm afraid that if I use washers to shim out the crankshaft pulley it would make the alternator not line up, but I haven't tried it yet. I guess I should try it before I say it won't work. Are two single crankshaft pulleys an option instead of the double pulley?

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
i may not have the same bracket as you, but i noticed on mine that there seemed to be a way to adjust it with shims (washers) and maybe a hammer. but nothing to radical really. mine seems to be a stock cast one that mounts low and to the motor mount? mine might have been as much as a full pulley width off.
and mine use a 3 belt krank pulley. |

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
I am guessing the pulleys are wrong for each other or the pump pulley is wrong for that particular bracket. The factory didnt have to shim/hammer anything to get them aligned so thats my guess.

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
i was able to nicely adjust mine. just sayin'.

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
Is there a nut holding your power steering pulley to the pump? Looks to me like the crank pulleys are wrong ( at least the outer one). The one on my Burb which is the only non air set up I have, has a nose that fits against the first crank pulley and spaces it away from the inner about 3/8". The guy in the link "gotpulley" that darkone provided can definitely help you.

Re: Power Steering Pulley not aligned
I see two issues.. that is the incorrect PS pump pulley and you do not have the crank pulley for PS. the crank pulley you have is for running the alternator and AC. there is a separate pulley for PS. (depending on which pump pulley it can either be a single groove stamped steel one or a cast iron double groove
Here is a picture of the correct "flat" PS pulley which uses the cast iron crank pulley. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=474903 Here is a picture of the correct "bell shaped" PS pulley that uses the stamped steel single groove crank pulley Scroll to post #7 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=474244 |
