Well ! Need a new cab !!!!!

Well had some time to mess with the truck today and I pulled the AC / Heater assembly and I found all the rust on this " relatively rust free cab"

Now I have to eather keep it as a fishing / mud playing truck or find a new cab to restore it.

Re: Well ! Need a new cab !!!!!

I see decent cabs for sale on CL for $250 (usually no doors/glass, etc, but sometimes the whole cab) - my guess is you can get the same in your neighborhood. Nice whole trucks with blown engines go for $1000. Old squares are one of the few good deals left, assuming you are into old gas hogs.
If I were you I would get a rust free old truck and transfer your drive train and good parts - cheaper and faster in the long run - once rust starts it spreads and you never see it all until it is too late. You should be able to sell parts off your current truck and come out $$ ahead. Scrap value on a whole truck is $250+.

Well I didn't take any pictures but it is the firewall. All along the seam down by the top of the floor boards, and of coarse the Forrest behind the engine where it always rusts

Not really. The recyclers are are cleaned out round here. I have a second one I'm using as a donor. Other than that, Kijiji is what I use. Slim pickins for the good stuff.
Promax on 51 ave or Mopac on 170th st for new high performance.

Re: Well ! Need a new cab !!!!!

If I lived in the great white north, I would just buy a rust free truck off Craigslist and have it shipped to me. Cross country US transport is about $800-$1000 the last time I checked, so from SW U.S. to Canadian border can't be much different in price, especially if you are not in a hurry. From what I read, getting through Canadian customs is paperwork intensive but not that pricey for a low cost vehicle - some companies specialize in this. Or, have it dropped at the border and drive it across, then strip it for parts?
As was mentioned, just because a vehicle is sold in the southern U.S. does not mean it is rust free. Many have been driven here from the rust belt, or have been exposed to salt/humidity from being in coastal areas (Florida, Texas coast, etc.) However, do a CL search in Tucson, Phoenix, Albuquerque, etc. and you will see tons of rust free squares. Many are banged up and mechanically shot, but some are fairly straight and all have rust free frames. I see beautiful squares needing an engine or trans for $2000 or less all the time. Why fight a rusted truck when you can get a nice one cheap? - I don't get it. You still have to replace all of the mechanical/electrical equipment over time - so spend those $$ on a good truck to start with.

$60 dollars .....?!?!?!? Sorry, I am from Ontario, All we use is salt here. Sucks big time. Cars here 5 years old start to rust, let alone something from the 70's and 80's. I bought an almost rust free box here, for $600, and that was on the cheaper side. AND... It was a 6ft S10 box. Not even full size. Last I checked on a box for a square it was running 800 and up. For a southern rust free one. You guys down there dont know how good your really have it. Rant over , sorry. :)

Re: Well ! Need a new cab !!!!!

Just googled that tour lol 48 hours straight drive
And that has a part through the US.
Doubt that would fly with US customs lol
I'd stay north,would wana fly out.And drive back,but I'm not lookin anymore
But curious any Jimmys/Blazers
Buying the 79 below 800 (2 hour drive for him)delivered with plow,

I think some states don't use salt,(of course ones that get snow/ice)
Is vermont one?
But here yup, on the steak, and on the road, can't live without it!
