Re: Mustang 2 front end?
I think it's a mistake to put a ponycar suspension under a 1/2 ton truck. JMO

Re: Mustang 2 front end?
About 6 years ago or so this cat came on here asking if thre was much interest. Most people feel that the front end under these trucks is good enough, becouse only a few people asked questions.

I was JW because I've heard a few people talking about this and couldn't understand why you would change it out.. my guess is that it is a cheaper set up to mod ..

Re: Mustang 2 front end?
it gives you rack and pinion steering, which offers you more feedback and less resistance to turn. That is the main reason to swap over. On other vehicles (60's & 70's fords for example) it allows one to get rid of the shock towers that make life hard when stuffing a big engine in a smaller car, and they are often rusted out anyways. Another common reason, on cars/trucks even older than that, is updating from a solid front axle. If you are swapping, may as well go for a common (lower cost) front end, and the mustang II/Pinto front end was a very good, low cost unit, that was (in it's day) very responsive and easy to adapt.
On a vehicle that is already independant front suspention, with a steering system that is considerably better than marginal, there is not much reason to swap. The thoughts of 'pintos/mustang II front end can't hold the weight of an old truck' isn't exactly a fair comment since these trucks arean't a whole lot more than a small block mustang II, and they front ends aren't simply swapped over, but modified first, or a kit that is BASED on the ford rack and pinion set up. |
Re: Mustang 2 front end?
Personally, I wouldn't want ANYTHING from a Mustang II on my trucks. And especially from a Pinto!
