1957 Deluxe Heater
 

I have a 1957 deluxe heater that I am re-doing for my 1957 Cameo truck. My questions is this. What COLOR should the heater box and fan be and what is a good source for a rattle can spray paint that would be close?

I want it to appear as original as possible.

Not sure how perfect you need to be but I'd use a Rustoleum hammertone gray

if ya really wanna play your cards right - look hard enough on the heater box and you should find a date of manufacture - you can highlight that in white - subtle but classic

Oh thanks. I hardly get any time to work on it, then I get to it for a day or two and get frustrated when "stuff" gets in my way for another week or two.

Right now its blocked into my driveway by my camper and boat so I can't drive it. Besides the cluster is out of it and I can't start it with the oil line disconnected. So, I'm just piddling at it. Throwing more primer at it. Cleaning up the interior some, etc.

That doesn't look too bad. Is there any rust-through? Looks like you could just give it a nice sanding and rattle can it hammertone. I would. I'd prolly clear it too, but not sure if I'd use gloss or a semi gloss. I mean, you want your heater to look nice but do you really want to call attention to it?

no rust, whatsoever. I am excited about taking it apart an rebuilding it!

if you look @ tmobles pictures - the black case pictures - it shows a complete water control valve . your whole bottom half is missing - its the part that opens and closes the water valve - i had the same thing when i took mine apart .- bought a new one from one of these vendors -cant remember the cost - but after replacment i had all he controls working correctly - compare the pics . will be glad to assist if ya need help.

Is this what you are referring to (Water control valve)? On mine, it is attached to the heater core "inside" the heater box. In this picture the control cable IS NOT connected at this time from the control lever.

Those are usually missing because direct replacements were hard to find. I had the same problem in the 80's and ended up getting a core that fit, modified the in/out hoses and put an inline control valve in place.

from lookin @ your earlier pictures i did not see the control valve - you do have all the parts then;and looks to be in pretty good shape .give it and the water hose a good lookin over ;make sure ya aint got no leaks .and lube your operating cables
those are really good heaters - and hard to find ! good luck on your build.
