Brake Light Fuse Keeps Blowing

I've got a 1977 Chevy C-10 without cruise. My brake light fuse keeps blowing as soon as I push the brake pedal down. I've checked the wiring in the dash and it all looks good. Seems to me that if the problem was in the chassis wiring I wouldn't have turn signals and/or parking lights, but I still have those. Could it possibly be something wrong in the turn signal switch?? I checked the brake light switch and it's fine. Doesn't the problem have to be between the brake light switch and the point where the brake lights and turn signals are combined??

yes, usually a pinched wire.. remove the fuse, and the light.. then test that wire to ground.. somewhere the bare copper is touching the truck.. that draws to much current, fuse blows..usually easy to find but that kind of trouble is my job..

if you do not have a meter, a test light, one side to battery, the other side to that wire will light the test lamp... using the brake wire as a ground.. IF you can not find the short, run a new wire.. cut it in half, replace the fuse and then press the brake.. now you know which half the cross is in..

I removed the power wire to my brake controller thinking that may be the problem but it wasn't. I think i'll check the trailer plug tomorrow too now JIC. John I will try your suggestions too. Thanks.

Well it turns out that the problem was in the turn signal switch connection. It had come loose from its retaining bracket and was touching the steering column.
