Carb issues, to Holley or not.

We got into my truck yesterday and made some good progress. I discovered that I have a Rochester 2 Jet carb which is clearly not original due to the couple of vacuum hoses that I found plugged with twigs. Yes, tree branches, not even a proper dowel.

In any case, the Rochester is unhealthy and the choke linkage is locked up anyhow, and the choke cable broke, oops.

Anyhow, I went over to Jollys6066 page and read about the Holley conversion. It's a bit expensive but I'm considering it. It seems I might need a couple of other things like an air cleaner and a fuel line adapter which will add to the price.

What I want to know is if anyone has found any cross over parts that would be cheaper (air cleaner or a mod) or wants to recommend a reliable carb rebuilder where I can get a rebuilt Holley cheaper.

Or if anyone has a Holley for sale? PM me.

Interesting...but aren't I better off having a proper carb with all the appropriate hookups? It seems this particular Rochester is missing something.

A little more info would help. What engine? What intake manifold? are you staying with 2 barrel Or going to 4 barrel.

Sure, truck is a 1966 GMC long stepside with 351V6 and I would stay with a 2 barrel. Sorry, can't tell you what intake manifold it appears to be stock otherwise.

If it were mine I would do the swap. The original carb offers little in the way tuning, whereas the Holley can easily be adjusted to provide superior operation. Post #30 on the attached thread begins a step by step conversion to the Holley:

I’m no V6 expert but I believe the 60-61 intake manifolds ran a one barrel carb, so when swapping to the 2 barrel Holley the later manifold you already have should be the sought after version.

Check the base & bolt pattern. There are not a lot of different carbs that will fit that.

choke cable

Guys, another Noob question. I ordered up the Holley 4412 and I need a choke cable. Is it universal or is there one specific to my truck?

They are pretty much generic, although you might want to get one with the correct knob for your truck from LMC or the like..
