Starter power help

I know this is a post about a 79 but this side gets way more traffic and I might get a faster response...

So I just installed a standard column in my 79 GMC. It was once converted to a 4 speed from an automatic. I got everything all hooked up and what not. Went to start it and it has full power except it doesn't turn over. Lights, buzzers, radio and everything works as it should, just doesn't start. No clicking or anything on the starter. Any help as to what wires to check for power or ? thanks

Might be something with your old Neutral safety switch.

99% sure it wasn't hooked up when I pulled the auto column

That.means there's a 1% chance its your problem. Look under the dash for the plug with 2 terminals and usually a purple and yellow wire in it( sometimes two purple) and make sure its jumped between the terminals.

Had an issue like that. Ended up a round issue. Check all your ground and clean them up.

If the column is all that was messed with, and it started before, then forgrt the grounds.
Double check the neutral switch.
Check out the tumbler and the actual ignition switch.

Re: Starter power help

thanks a bunch guys, it was the neutral safety switch, plugged it in and fired right up. Now the headlights dont work? They worked before I hooked up the safety switch, but I think it might be the dimmer switch. Dang wiring demons from past owners...
