Factory speaker sizes?

Hello All,

I recently purchased a 1986 Silverado SB 2WD. It has what appears to be factory rear speakers (both sides) and three front (dash) speakers. My wife purchased me the Retro Sound model #8573 stereo from LMC for Christmas. I would like to replace the speakers at the same time that I install the stereo. What size are the factory speakers and does anyone have a suggestion for what to replace them with?

Thanks in advance for your input,

Ratman

Re: Factory speaker sizes?

you could wire a center speaker in series (mono) off of the front channels if the deck has 4 channels. That would give you a center stage, or you could not use it. I am using 2 3.5" 2-ways in the center of my '66. But I like having a center stage.

Re: Factory speaker sizes?

Can the dash speakers be mounted by removing the dash pad or do they need to be installed from under the dash?

yes you need to remove the dash pad to mount them they drop in from the top, be careful not to hit the windshield with the socket or wrench my cousin did when the socket slipped and cracked his

Re: Factory speaker sizes?

there is a bracket (holding the speaker to the hole)if you can eliminate it you should be able to get a bigger speaker in there...

Bought these and finally got around to installing them this weekend. Just an FYI these 4x10's are much deeper than the factory ones and I had to make spacers to give them enough room for the additional depth.
