1970 gmc Ingition switch installation
All,
I am newbee to the forum and this is my first time posting. I am having a heck of a time installing a new ignition switch into my restoration project. I completly restored my 70' and am now in the process of putting it all back together. For the life of me, I cannot get the tumbler to stay in the newly installed switch. The Switch is plugged into the harness, spacer backs up to the back of the dash, I installed the bezel (remembering that the tumbler came out first). But I cannot put the tumbler in and remove the key to finish the installation. I need your guidance. Thank you in advance |

First off, :welcoem: .. to the board...
First you need to insert a screwdriver into the new switch and make sure it is turned to the left as far as it will go...DO NOT FORCE IT!!! It should turn fairly easy. After you are satisfied it is all the way to the left insert the lock cylinder with the small hole at about 1 o'clock position and push in on the cylinder. You should feel a little spring pressure on it. If the end of the cylinder doesn't drop down into the slot at the bottom of the switch gently turn it back and forth until it does. Once you have it in push in on the key and turn it to the right until it clicks in. LockDoc |

LockDoc, thank you.
I will give it a shot today after work. Just one more question: When I insert the cylinder (hole in the 1:00 position), that is with the key installed, correct? And no need to try to depress that little button or anything on reassembly only disassembly? Again, thank you for your help and have a great day. |
