crew cab short bed
 

I know this question get's ask'd alot but I'm gonna ask again any way, I search my self for a few hour's but with the crapy internet we have here make's it hard.
I am look'n for some GOOD link's about convert'n a 1 ton to short bed, specificly where to take the maesurements.
or at least some advice on how to find em myself with out it show 7364 thread's unrelated to my search.
Also curious if the Suburban tank will fit after the frame is short'nd.

I would think if you could not find them you could sit the shortbed on the long bed frame with the wheels and wheel wells in the bed aligned and measure what would need to be taken out dont forget to leave a gap for between the cab and bed. I know I have seen the measurements in a couple of the build threads

I know it's 14 out'a the front and I recently read where on a 1 ton it's only 3 off the back, I'm curious where every start's the first cut line.
that's a good idea though, I could just set the bed on and mark it from there.

It looks like the center of the gas tank hangers is the best spot to start, from all the build threads I have seen.

There are 3 different suburban tanks.
28 gallon, 32 gallon, and a 40 gallon.
The 40 gallon won't fit in a stock height or lower short bed. Not enough room behind the axle.

On cutting the frame, cut behind the very front bed mount bolt holes. That way, most of the holes should line up.
You can figure out how much off the rear by sitting the bed on. On my CCSB, the PO cut too much off the back. I would leave as much as possible.

If its going to be a 4x4 you could also move the rear axle forward 14" and cut all the difference off of the back. I think if you plan on a lowered 2wd the frame would be in the way of the axle using this method. Guess you could always notch the frame.

This brings up a good point, and something i have wondered about myself. Dont recall seeing a build thread using this method? Seems pretty standard to whack 14" starting at the rear cab mounts and a few of the tail. But not this route
Maybe someone has done this and can school us. With a 1 ton at least.

My buddy scotts62 did it on his 93 crew.
The frames are way different on those though, same principal.

this guy sorta did that, just the oppasite though. took to much outa the front and move'd the axle back to correct it. it does show what's involve'd with move'n the hanger's.
mine is 2WD and will ride about 3" off the ground.
the link's Getto and Joe post'd will help me out. one thing I did read recently is on 1/2 and 3/4 tons ya take 6" off the rear but on 1ton's only 3".

yes, My girl friend found a good bed last week. a little rust where the fender need's to be cut for the dually.
I should be home in May or June for good so I'll be able to finaly do every thing to the truck. the bed and every thing to bag it is set'n there wait'n on me.

you think a 32 gallon Suburban will fit OK ?

Sweet!!

Yeah, I put a 32 gallon in my CCSB. I used the tank crossmembers from a Burb, but you can use the truck rear crossmember and fab a front one. It makes it a b***h to get to the rear bed bolts with the bumper, hitch, and tank in there :lol:
The 28 and 32 are tge same width and depth, the 32 is deeper.

thank's, ya My girl freind was glad to hear it also. I told her I'd be home in 12 month's,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 21 months ago.
