would it be smart or not smart to just take the belt off my smog pump? i really dont know to much about these smog pumps, the truck is still fairly new to me

Re: smog pump
You can.... Or eliminate the whole thing like I did. It doesn't affect the way the truck runs, but you have to swap manifolds

Re: smog pump
and what are the pros and cons of "de-smoging" the motor?

Re: smog pump
Clean up the engine compartment. Less parts to break. Easier access to other items, (plugs, wires, etc.)
I just disconnected my smog pumps (2), and due to a manifold leak, ended up hacking off the spider web of AIR tubing, and replacing with headers. Headers were cheaper than replacing the exhaust manifolds (other than going to a junkyard.) I was able to eliminate a bunch of vacuum lines, and replaced the rest that were rotted off. |

Basically the best thing to do is eliminate and forget. |
Re: smog pump
If I didn't live in California, My smog pump would have been in a landfill a long time ago. It wasn't just the GM ones that seized up...pretty much any 70s car i've ever had, the smog pump seized up on it.

Re: smog pump
what all would i have to take off to de-smog it correctly?
