adapter plates?
 

I've done a little research, but I just can't seem to decide with adapter plates I should go with.

I plan to install my LS1 in the 6-cyl position and get it as far back as I can without having to fabricate my own mounts. Most mounts I've seen still move the engine forward though.

Who has mounted their LS engine this way?

I tried getting mine back there(6cyl+1"set back plates), but my 4l80E hit the cab pinch weld. It may clear with a high hump.

I'm gonna stay with my TH350 for the time being, so I should have sme wiggle room.

have you looked at DirtyDingo.com, they have some adjustable adaptor plates.

mount adapter plates (I used transdapt) + I6 perches in the rear position put me almost INTO the fire wall. So far back that my rear coil packs did not clear. I had to move it forward over 1.5" to get it where i liked it.

I like the Dirty Dingo adapters. I'll probably order a set of them when I order.

CPP has system that includes a adjustable mount theyntold me on then phone yesterday it includes the perches for just a little mone then the Dingo

Thanks for the info, Paul, but I had a less than desireable dealing with CPP a few years ago which I just can't seem to get over. I just have a hard time dealing with them at all.

Yesterday I ordered the ECE system they said I could use my low mount air and factory exhaust with a slight mod. Stan gave a grat deal and said to call with any problems or if need help

When I first threw around the idea of putting an LS in my 70 GMC, I found the CPP Perches and Adapter Plate combo through classicparts.com and decided to go with that. Using those products together, I had to mount my perches in the rear holes and drill a new hole in the crossmember for the lower connection. This put the engine in a location where my oil pan cleared the crossmember and the intake didn't hit the firewall. My problem arose when I couldn't get my Doug Thorley LS swap headers to clear the engine perches. I found some 3/8" steel plate and decided to make some new adapter plates based on some info posted from gLock35icsp in this post:

The adapter plate I had that came with the kit was #3. I made some plates to resemble #1, so hopefully I can move the perches back to the front location, and leave the engine roughly in the same location, in regards to the crossmember, as it was with the plates in #3. This should allow the headers to clear, and hopefully find a final resting spot for my engine. Hope this helps.

I used 6cyl position perches with adapter plate #2 and it fits about as close to the firewall as possible. Also used th350 and no cutting necassary for it to fit. Good luck with the build.
