Re: Insurance!

From what I was told by Haggarty everything depends on how much you drive it. Also with them it has to be stored in a secure garage. They wouldnt insure me and a friend of mine because if its beautiful out... im going to drive it! That didnt fly with there limited driving/mileage policy. SOOOO I have all of my insurance through Nationwide and have since I was old enough to drive. The truck is insured for $8K and it costs me $12 a month.

I had Haggarty for one year, but this is a DD for me and I dont think they cover that. I just have regular insurance like the rest of my vehicles.

I was referred to Condon and Skelly i think it is. They are a MEtlife insurance company that actually sells custom policies for other things like collector cars, boats etc. They had by far the lowest quote. Agreed value at $19,000 was $85 a year.

I have mine with Auto Club Classic Car insurance. Agreed value, unlimited mileage but you must keep the car in a secured garage and it is not your sole means of transportation. Mine is $212.00/yr.

Re: Insurance!

Ask questions and read the fine print before signing. Be certain you are going to be covered for the kind of use the vehicle will see. If you use it only to and from shows and in parades, then everybody wants your business, but if you use it to and from work, beware, you probably wont be covered by an agreed value classic car policy. Also, like others have said, most will require the vehicle to be stored in a locked garage.

As mentioned, most of the 'classic insurance' offers require minimum use, locked garage... most of them you can't actually use it as a truck, etc..

This was written several years back, but it was done by an insurance agent as I recall:

Insuring your old truck

Re: Insurance!

I just got hagerty on my 62. Had a day or two "negotiating" what my agreed value is (I said $12k, they wanted $20K). We settled at $18k. This is $302/yr with all $0 deductibles and 150? mile towing coverage

Re: Insurance!

Had Mercury for years on all my vehicles. had 2 claims on the newer ones.... no problem. Wifes '77 Firebird got hit while parked and it was an absolute nightmare!
When my daughter started driving it got worse.

Bought her a 10 year old FxxD ZX2 and it cost more than my '05 Bonneville and '03 Envoy 4x4 combined.

Had them replace the windshield in my '65 C-10 and promptly told them to pound salt.

Switched to AAA and actually got better coverage for about $800 less per year.

Re: Insurance!

Ive looked at hagerty, 259/year, same non DD and secure facility for storage. I'll have to look at my "regular" insurance and see what they say.

Re: Insurance!

geico doesn't want to insure your truck as a DD? that doesn't sound right.

granted my truck is about as ugly as a red headed step child and I only carry liability but it costs less than my 89 Civic did. I asked my agent about this and he replied "we don't have records of how much damage trucks like your 68 did, but your teenage magnet Civic is a different story".
