Interchangeable Pulleys?
I am planning on putting power steering and a/c on my '68. The pulley on the water pump and the drive pulley are both single belt pulleys. A, not-so-local, junkyard has a '69 with a straight 6 that has dual belt pulleys on the pump and drive. I have a 307 with factory nothing. Are the pulleys interchangeable? I took some pics of the junker and can add that, if necessary.

Do yourself a favor and keep an eye on the parts board. When you see somebody parting such a beast, buy both the crank and water pump pulleys and use them and only them. I haven't had one single issue with my belts since the day I put on that matched set from a short water pump truck that had air. BTW I didn't add the power steering to my rig but I did add factory AC. When it came time to charge the system, with the correct pulleys it was as easy as buying an AC fan belt for a 1971 truck with air. |
Re: Interchangeable Pulleys?
Matched pulleys, pump and brackes are the only way to go.I would ask what they want for the 6 Cyl stuff.Mght be a bit of profit in the resale.Get it all.

Re: Interchangeable Pulleys?
After hunting pulleys for all mine,I agree-Get it all off the same engine at one time. Will save you a lot of headaches!
Doesn't have to be a 67/72 truck. Just about any Chevy with all the accessories you want will work as long as it uses the same water pump. Mike.:chevy: |
