295/50/15's on the rear?
 

i've decided that i'm not getting 255/60's all around. i want some meat in the back.

what i'm wondering is will a 295/50 tuck with a 6" drop on 8.5" wheels with i "think" about 4" back spacing.

will a 295 be to wide for a 8.5" rim?

NOPE! That's what everyone's running around here, with dropped C10's. They all have 295/50 15's, but they have like 8" rims! It'll look pretty good :cool: Personally though, 255/45 18 would look better :D

the 295/50/15's are only .4" shorter than teh 255/60/15's . and thats fine, since my back end is a little higher anyway. the sidewall is only .2" shorter than the 255/60's too.

Technically...it really is to wide for it but if you dont care about wear/danger/ contact patch or bulging sidewalls go for it. ;)

I know that tons do it and I dont care....its flat out too wide of a tire for that wheel...ask low84...he probably hates mounting tires like that on wheels that size. And the way the tire has to bend around the wheel..you end up with less tire contact patch on the road than you would with a 255 on the wheel.

Riptide has the right setup. 295 on a 10" wheel is perfect and looks much better while taking advantage of the full contact patch

to tell you the truth, i'm not sure exactly what size my rims are. i do know the 275/60/15's fit on there perfect and do not look to wide or to skinny, but pretty much flush.


anyways. would a 305 tuck? what size rim would be best for a tire that size. i'm asking about it for a set of 18's btw.

Eric, for the rears, get 275/40 18 on a 9½" rim with 5½" BS. Trust me, they'll fill the fenderwells up PERFECTLY.

but I think Eric is confused....I think he is driving G's Tire Fryin machine and needs a 26" wide slick on the back for traction!! lol

has anyone measured to see how much offset to the inside our trucks will except? , I have a 10" rim w/ 325-50's on mine with a 3.5 backspaceing , and to get them in the wheelwell all the way i would need aproxamatley a 4.5 backspacing. I have about 1/2" of sidewall out of the wheelwell.

yeah i definatly agree with dave. a 295/50 needs a 9.5 or 10 inch wheel to fit right, and get the benefits fromt the wider tire. but before you go stuffin some meats under there stuff some power under the hood. i'd much rather have to much motor for my tires than too much tire for my motor. i'm eventually gonna be running 15x7's on front with 215/70/15's and 15x10's on rear with 295/50/15's. those tire are the same hight but the back one is a hella lot wider than the front. but i stil don't think those will keep me planted:(

I have the following:

Front: 15x8 Centerline Telstar w/ 4" BS w/ 295/50/r15's
Rear: 15x10 Centerline Telstar w/ 4.5" BS w/ 295/50/r15's

A 295/50/r15 is kind of wide for an 8" wheel.
They do fit and the sides do budge slightly.
The tire shops I have talked with said there is no problems with mounting that tire on an 8" wide wheel.
I tried to find different tires to get away from the slight budge, but didn’t have luck.
I wanted to keep the back tires, 295/50/r15’s, and just change the front to something not as wide.
But very few companies made tires in both sizes so I could have matching front and back.
That is why I kept the 295/50/r15’s all around.

These tires and wheels (front and back) will NOT tuck up into the wheel wells.
The edge of the tires are right at the wheel well lip.

Front- 20X8.5 w/4.75"bs running 255/35/20
Rear- 20X10 w/5"bs running 295/40/20

I too reccomend a 10" rim for anything over 275 wide. The set up I run works with bags with over an inch clearance on both sides of the rear wells.

15-10's with a 3.5 backspaceing , they are series 55 engles

The 255 will hold that the 305 pretty good. They hold mine really good when they are hot. If they are cold you can for get it. The 305 will light'em up! :D Without a 700R4 the 305 probably will not smoke anything bigger than the 275. :p

wow, im running a 1984 305 with a 700r4. it has in 15'' by 7'' with 235 15 75's and that thing its already hard to powerbrake. then your saying that youve done it with 255's. am i loosing a lot of power somehow? or does that 55 series tire make a lot of difference? my truck has only 50000 miles on it!!! why??? maybe the new 572 will solve all my problems. 720 hp would get that moving along well.

I have 275/60s as well and they do work well for the 305s. I tempararily have 225/75 on and they spin like no one's business! My 305 can burn! Yesss!
