lets put together a driveshaft length chart

lets put our heads together to make a chart or list of the driveshaft lengths for the different truck/ tranny configs, i am mostly interested in 2wd swb 700r4 right now, but i think it would be good to have a refence chart for all of us.

thanks

Was this chart ever made? I'm building a 49 3100 and put a Vortec 350 in it with a 700R4 tranny and a GM10 bolt posi from a 78 Z28. I would like to find a stock pickup driveshaft that I could cut down instead of having a custom one made. Anyway, just checking!

For some reason it never did. Mustve just been bad timing. And im guilty too. There is a stock driveshaft I was able to use for my gen1 355/gen 1 t56 combo in my 86 2wd short bed with an 8.5 10 bolt. But its tucked in for the winter and I forget what it came from... im pretty sure it was a 66 Pontiac car. Remind me this spring to check which one it was its written on the driveshaft itself but its packed tight in my garage and -4* today. Brrrr

Here is a little info I learned going from a 700r4 with np208 transfer case to TH400 with np208 transfer case. I assumed the drive shafts would be different, but it turned out they were the same length and I was able to use the old ones.

TH400 with Gear Vendor's O/D to 12bolt rearend. 45.5" driveline length, measured center to center of U-Joint caps.

I'll dig this one back up. Does anyone know if the u joints are the same for the th350/4l60e yokes and the th400?

Thanks

I know the prop shaft design/release engineer for the squarebody trucks.

I asked him for the chart he referred to when he released these parts for production. He said he would find it and get it over to me.

I never heard back from him....

Does anyone know the length of driveshaft I would need to put a Saginaw 4 speed from a 78 Camaro in my SWB 84 c10 with the factory 10 bolt? Locally it would cost me $300 to $400 to have a custom one built. I am gonna try and find one from another vehicle that works with no mods. None of the shops in my area that I know of shorten them either due to liability issues.

Measure the two transmissions and subtract the difference.

Shops in my area are about the same price, @$300, to custom build. If I can find one that's to long they can cut down and balance for about $100.
