Splitting trailing arm solution??
 

My passenger side trailing arm is starting to seperate down the middle. I read that there was a kit that you can get, that clamps the two sides back together, then you weld a plate down it to reinforce it. I need some kind of solution, until I can save up some money for a CPP kit. Any help would be appreaciated.

I'm looking to do the same with mine. I checked on the boards, and some are doing what you suggested, others are welding the seems down the center on both sides. I will probably go the weld seem option.

Usually rust is causing these to split open. If so, welding them up is not the right option.

I have 3/4 ton trailing arms for sale, They have welded plates on the botton and top. Jenn

Sure, you don't see to many 3/4 ton trailing arm trucks out here, mostly 67-68 trucks. At least it seems that way for me. Here is a pics of the last set I sold. They are the exact same size and just have the extra strength with the plates. Hope this helps. Jen

Take them out, drill out the spot welds and take them apart. Grind, sand blast, etc. and get them so they fit back together like they should. You will have high spots to hammer down where the spot welds were. Paint the insides with POR-15 or at least Rustoleum, THEN weld them back together and paint the outsides.... I stitch weld mine top and bottom, seal between the welds on the top with a good quality seam sealer and leave the bottom open.

I agree with LockDoc. I was having the same issues with mine. I took them out, drilled out the rivets, blasted, sealed with rust inhibitor, and bolted back together with some grade 8 hardware. Finished with some stitch weldes, and covered with paint. Maybe a little overkill, but should be good as new!
