Need help getting 2wd Manual Trans cross member out.
I'm taking my 4 speed out and putting in a new th400. Last night I was trying to get the 4 speed cross member out, but had a hard time. This should come out just by using a BFH, but I want to know if there was a trick to it. IE pound the left side of the cross member forward and the right side towards the back.
Can anyone offer any real good advice besides cutting this? |
Not to offend the intelligence, but did you cut out all the rivets holding it in place. If I remember, mine is held in with 3 rivets on each side. Once those are outI think it just falls out, nuless someone welded it in in the past.

Yes I did take the rivets out and no the cross member doesn't fall out. I wish it did but it doesn't.
Sorry that comment kind of stung a little, but I understand what kind of point you were trying to make. |
;) put a hydraulic bottle jack and a piece of 4/4 between the frame rails and spread the frame a fraction . it worked for me good luck. :flag: :bowtie:

I just took out my cross member. I don't know if it makes a difference, but mine is an auto. I had to use a BFH and walk it back like you said, hit left then right, etc. I like the spread the frame idea posted above.

The auto was much easier than this stick. If I can't walk it back tonight and find the sweet spot than I will spread the frame. Thanks guys for your help...
